Leadership in 2025: Less Power, More Presence

As we wind down Q3 and get ready for final quarter of 2025, I wanted to reflect on the topic very close to my heart. How best leaders show up every day, and why some are way better than others when it comes to leading from the front.

As we wind down Q3 and get ready for final quarter of 2025, I wanted to reflect on the topic very close to my heart. How best leaders show up every day, and why some are way better than others when it comes to leading from the front.

The New Rules of Leadership

Back in 2015, leadership still followed a familiar formula: titles, hierarchies, corner offices, and calendars packed with meetings. The leader set the tone from the top and everyone else followed.

Fast forward to 2025, and that model feels not just outdated, but ineffective.
Today’s most impactful leaders aren’t always the loudest or highest on the org chart. They’re the ones modeling resilience on Zoom, checking in between tasks, and asking better questions — not giving louder answers.

Call it micro-leadership or human-first strategy. The game has changed. Presence now matters more than power.

My Shift from Leading Teams to Leading Self

After years in corporate roles focused on change management and communication, I stepped into a self-led world: solopreneurship, board service, and project-based leadership. I no longer had a team under me, but I still had responsibility around me.

What surprised me? Leadership didn’t disappear with the title.
It just showed up differently. Through consistency. Through care. Through helping others get unstuck — without waiting to be asked.

At mPath Services, I support clients not just with strategy and systems, but with the mindset that leadership can come from anywhere — and should start with how we show up, not what we control.

Your Turn: Who Are the Quiet Leaders in Your Life?

When you think about leadership today, who comes to mind?
Not the biggest title — but the person whose presence steadies the team.
Whose choices reflect clarity. Whose leadership shows up in service, not ego.

We need more of that. And it starts with noticing.
